STEP 1 - MEET REQUIREMENTS

Happy Mailman’s requirements are in place to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all dogs in our care.  We encourage you to review the following in detail:

Requirements for All Dogs:
+ Current on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) *Vaccines must be administered by a vet
+ At least 3 months old, although 4 months of age is encouraged for the health of your pet.  Puppies are still developing their immune systems at an early age, thus there is a slightly higher risk factor for young puppies in any kennel environment.
+ Spayed or neutered if over 7 months
+ Must not exhibit aggressive behavior towards other dogs or people
+ Must play well and socialize well with other dogs

NOTES ON VACCINATIONS

Please note that it is best to administer vaccinations at least a few days before coming to Happy Mailman or any kennel. First, this gives the vaccination time to incubate and thus better protect your pet.  Additionally, some pets may have negative reactions to vaccinations shortly after they are administered. We recommend having your vet fax or email vaccination records prior to your evaluation. You may also bring in a paper copy with you upon check-in.

STEP 3 - SCHEDULE EVALUATION

All new boarding and daycare dogs come in for an evaluation day, which is simply a full day of daycare provided free of charge. During the evaluation, our trained staff will introduce your dog into the play environment and observe how he or she behaves in a social setting. This process not only helps us to ensure the safety and compatibility of all dogs visiting Happy Mailman, but acclimates your dog to our environment. Once signed up on our Customer Portal, you can request a free Evaluation Day!

Caleb Ruiz

Assistant Manager

Hello, friends — my name is Caleb! A little about me: I grew up in many places across Texas, from small towns to the beautiful city of Austin! With all that movement and lack of consistency, a lifelong passion was born.

It started early. I caught and released small critters that wandered into the house and nursed cold, stunned reptiles back to health. My passion for animals only grew deeper as I got older. When I turned 16, I got my first job as a cleaner. While working, I began to notice how many stray cats and dogs were in the area, and it broke my heart…

From then on I started bringing extra cat and dog food in my beat-up Smart Car, leaving food for any stray animal I saw. I wanted to show each of them the dignity and respect they deserve. All the animals I helped, taught me something important about myself: the true value of compassion and patience.

A dog may not be able to speak to us, but they’re very good at reading intentions. My experience with stray pups showed me that the way to their hearts is through pure intentions, calmness, and love. These experiences are what I bring with me. I’m excited to bring that same compassion, patience, and gentle approach to every pet I meet at Happy Mailman. I look forward to building trust with your furry family members and helping them feel safe, loved, and cared for—one visit at a time.
